ABSTRACT
The giving or acceptance of any form of gratification in cash, or kind for the purpose of effecting a favor for the giver, or the provision of undeserved favor to someone on grounds of relationship is what is meant by corruption in this paper. It is academic corruption where it has to do with pupils and teachers. The multifarious and multi-dimensional nature of corruption demands that the problem be tackled with a multi-pronged approach. Some have argued that correction should start from the top, while others feel it could start from below. The position of this paper is that since everybody is a leader in his, or her own right, it is the duty of everyone to live and lead by example. It suggest among other recommendations that our pre-school and primary school teachers should do more to lead the young ones by good example to be able to mould the character and develop sound attitudes and morals in the child which is the teacher's mandate stipulated in section 4 (18) (d) of the National Policy on Education.
