PROFILE

Prof. Etim E. Okon is a Lecturer,  in the Department of Religious and Cultural Studies, University of Calabar, CRS, Nigeria.  From 1990 to 1999, Prof. Okon read Law,  Sociology, Philosophy and Religion in the University of Calabar and graduated with four degrees including a doctorate in Religious Studies (LL.B; BA; MA; PhD). In 2005, Prof. Okon returned to his alma mater as a lecturer in the Department of Religious and Cultural Studies. In 2006, he was appointed Examination Officer for the Department by the Vice-Chancellor, a position he held until 2009 when he was elected the Co-ordinator of Religious and Cultural Studies Unit.  Prof. Okon is presently Co-ordinator of Undergraduate programs in the Department of Religious and Cultural Studies, University of Calabar. Prof. Okon was a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Religious and Cultural Studies, University of Uyo in 2011/2012 session.

From 2005, Prof. Okon has served as secretary of both the departmental and faculty curriculum committees where he played a pivotal role in curriculum revision both in the Department and in the Faculty. Under the scholarly and creative leadership of Prof. Princewill Alozie and Prof. Emele M. Uka, Dr. Okon successfully introduced a new degree programme- Bachelor of Arts in Christian Religious Studies with the approval of Senate, and the National University Commission in Nigeria.

He has published over thirty articles in learned journals within and outside Nigeria, nineteen of which are in the public domain. Prof. Okon has authored one book - Religion and Human Rights Education, ISBN 9782222440, 368 pages. He has edited one book - Readings in the Scientific Study of Religion. ISBN 9780802047,  339 pages. Prof. Okon is a member of four international professional academic associations.
