RUDIMENTS OF OCKHAM'S METAPHYSICS

ABSTRACT
Ockham's major contributions to the development of late
medieval and early modem philosophy were in the areas
of epistemology, logic and metaphysics. He undertook his
reflections on these problems from the perspective of a
scholastic theologian akin to that of Thomas Aquinas,
Dons Scotus and other leading scholastic thinkers of the 13 century. The basic concern of these scholastic
thinkers was the attempt to reconcile and accommodate
the philosophical views of Aristotle within the framework
of Christian doctrine. It is important to note that Ockham's
philosophy looks in two opposite directions, first his
philosophy looks back to the Middle Ages, and secondly,
it looks forward to some of the ideas of the Enlightenment.
