ABSTRACT

Homosexuality has become a matter of serious concern in the world. It has undergone pervasive legal debate and has won legality in some countries; while in others, especially African countries, severe punishments such as life imprisonment and death sentences are prescribed for those caught practicing homosexuality. In Nigeria, as in other African societies, homosexuality is viewed not only as being immoral and unethical, but also a degrading act. In the face of argumentation, discord, and struggle for freedom, homosexuality has become a vital discussion in our world today. In Nigeria, as in other African societies, individuals are in a quest for freedom and the fight for human rights as well as the relevance for morality in public sphere. Morals are principles, or beliefs concerning right and wrong behavior. A society that is not grounded on a good, spirited moral structure is a defenseless, weak, and insecure society—society of no-man’s-concern, vulnerable to ruin.
