ABSTRACT
The fundamental objective of this study is to explore, and expose the inhumanity inherent in Leghi caste system in Kamweland, Adamawa State of Nigeria. This work will apply appropriate social and anthropological theories to explain the phenomenon of caste in Kamweland. The social factors of legitimation and continuity shall be examined within the framework of sociological theory. We shall attempt to answer the question; "why has Leghi caste system survived for too long in Kamweland? The study will analyze the economic dimension of Leghi caste system, especially the exploitation and manipulation of Leghi as the source of cheap labor that sustains Kamwe economy. The study will investigate the reasons for the persistence of caste system in the face of modernity and pervasive impact of globalization. The study will unveil the contradiction between the oppressors and the oppressed, and proffer solution for a collective action to abolish Leghi caste system in Kamweland.
