ABSTRACT

Education keeps adapting itself to new demands and circumstances. The value of any education is its relatedness and usefulness to social life. Education is not a vague thing; it is real. Though not tangible, it is absolutely essential. It has always been there with man and for man and yet it means different things to different people. Consequently, it has diverse approaches, aims and purpose. It is equally open to abuses as some form of education can impact negatively on the learner. What is the origin of education? How have people defined, classified and explained the concept? How best can it be imparted? What are the aims, advantages, disadvantages and abuses in education? This paper tries to uncover the tradition on education to avail the academic world another opportunity to redefine education policies for desired goals.
