Pauline Anake & Peter Ada - Early Childhood Education and Counseling in Calabar Metropolis, Cross River State, Nigeria

Nigerian policy on education stipulates compulsory early childhood education. The purpose of the study was to find out children’s interest about early childhood education. To achieve the purpose, five research questions were formulated.

ABSTRACT
Nigerian policy on education stipulates compulsory early childhood education. The purpose of the study was to find out children’s interest about early childhood education. To achieve the purpose, five research questions were formulated. A sample of 175 pre-primary school children were randomly selected from public primary schools in Cross River State, Nigeria. Data collection was through oral interview, using an interview schedule. Simple percentage was used for data analysis based on the pupils’ responses. The result revealed varied interest about early childhood school activities. The implications of their interest on early childhood counseling are also discussed in this study.
