ABSTRACT
The study investigated the influence of parental background on academic performance of young adult learners in the Central Senatorial District of Cross River State of Nigeria. Two null hypotheses were posed to guide the study. Literature was reviewed based on the variables of the study. The study adopted a survey research design. A sample of 200 respondents were selected from a population of 2000 young adult learners using stratified and simple random sampling techniques. The questionnaire was used to collect data. The reliability estimate of .79 was established using Cronbach Alpha Reliability Method. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was employed for data analysis at a .05 level of significance. The analysis indicated that parental marital status and educational background significantly influence the academic performance of young adult learners in the study area. We recommended that parents should provide an enabling environment devoid of marital crisis and give all the necessary assistance to their children for improved academic performance.
