Paulina M. Anake - Literacy and Transformative Leadership in Secondary Schools in Nigeria: Need for Counseling Intervention
To achieve high standard of literacy in education for all, it is necessary to expand the scope of leadership to incorporate all stakeholders within the school system. This study is a clarion call for the enthronement of literacy and transformative leadership in Nigerian secondary school system. This will enhance the motivation, morale and job performance of teachers and learners, through a variety of mechanism; such as connecting learners and teachers sense of identity, self-esteem and interest.

ABSTRACT
To achieve high standard of literacy in education for all, it is necessary to expand the scope of leadership to incorporate all stakeholders within the school system. This study is a clarion call for the enthronement of literacy and transformative leadership in Nigerian secondary school system. This will enhance the motivation, morale and job performance of teachers and learners, through a variety of mechanism; such as connecting learners and teachers sense of identity, self-esteem and interest. Therefore, the purpose of this study was aimed at x-raying literacy and transformational leadership in Nigerian school setting, through its characteristics, qualities of effectiveness and the four main factors affecting transformative leadership and literacy. Counseling intervention and awareness creation are recommended for intensified program on literacy and transformative leadership role for all school administrators.
